Lahore—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Punjab government has started the laptop programme for the promotion of information technology and this programme will continue in the future because no government can roll back this programme aimed at empowering the youth and equipping them with modern technology.
Talking to a delegation of students of the Lahore College for Women University at Model Town here, he said the Punjab government is distributing two lakh and 25 thousand laptops at the cost of eight billion rupees and process of the distribution of laptops among talented students will be completed in the ongoing month. He said that the laptop distribution programme is transparent and based on merit.
Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Commissioner Lahore Division, Secretary Higher Education, Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University and teachers were also present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that the Transparency International is a witness to transparency in the laptop distribution process. He said that even he has no authority to give a single laptop to anybody. He said that laptop is the right of talented and brilliant students which is being given to them.
He said that the right of no one has been violated in the laptop distribution programme and there is no discretionary quota in this programme. He said that if he is again given the opportunity to serve the people, more laptops will be distributed and no government can abolish this programme. The students appreciated the laptop distribution policy of the Chief Minister and said that Shahbaz Sharif has won the hearts of the students.
